Patagonia part 1: El Chalten

Read a complete account of our Patagonian adventure here.

We made it through the first part of our trip - hiking in the Parque Nacional de los Glacieres near El Chalten. And we only fell off the mountain twice (just kidding parents, we're totally fine).

The hikes were gorgeous. Big mountains all around us. Glacial lakes. Tangled trees and valley vistas. We stayed in a really nice B&B on either end and camped the three nights in the middle. The camp sites were basic but nice, with trees for shelter and water nearby.

We got lucky with the weather. Mostly clear skies and only rain at night. It's very windy though, especially at night, when the wind woke us up a couple of times it was so loud.

We wish our packs were a little more comfortable but other than that, we're loving Patagonian hiking. We're on a bus to El Calafate now. We'll hike on a glacier then head to Chile.

The photo is the view from the B&B of the town of El Chalten with Mount Fitz Roy in the background.
